San Jose Trip 2011
4 Marchese cousins ! I flew to Oakland, cousin Laurie picked me up and drove us to San Jose, where we met with Sandra and Karen. This is the place we met for lunch. Laurie and I represent Mario Marchese, and Sandra and Karen are descendants of Maria.
Next we visited the Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, where so many of our ancestors are buried. Here is Sandra's father and mother, Albert is one of Salvadore's sons.
This is the family plot for Great Aunt Maria and her son Eugene and daughter Nancy.
After the cemetery, we went to the old neighborhood, Palm St. where all our fathers lived. Here is Karen and Laurie in front of the Mario Marchese house
This is the tombstone for Salvadore and his son Paul. Maria and Salvadore's grave are really part of 1 family plot.
This is the tombstone for Laurie and my grandmother, Minnie Marchese (Dominica), who died in 1926.
This is one of the old Italian Catholic churches in North Beach area, Saint Peter and Paul.
Here is the beautiful alter with the popular Sicilian picture of Christ, called the Pantocrator, (all powerful.) The next day Laurie took us to North Beach, San Francisco's Little Italy. Here is the skyline, steep hills but clean and close neighborhoods.
Laurie choosing Sicilian cookies, big decision ! This was one of 2 popular Pastry shops in North Beach, Victorias, there since 1914.
We found this famous 100 year old deli - Molinari - Great place. Everything you can imagine there to buy for good Italian cooking. Salami's hanging from top. Laurie and I, molto buono dolce !! I was only there visiting for 2 days and one night, but had a great time. Laurie was a great host.
