| To the left is our Ustica Pizza at the home of Pietro and Pina Bertucci with cousin Letizia (Manfre.) We had several visits with Letizia and her family. Most of our meals were from the labor and heart of Pina !! She is such a great cook, Pietro doesn't like to eat anywhere else. Top photo is our meal at the Faralioni Restaurant, hosted by Salvatore Compagno. It is a beautiful site right at the Cala Santa Maria (Port.) | These 4 pictures are at a very special dinner at the beautiful home of Maria Compagno. She also is a great Ustica Cook !! We had an 8 course meal!! those are GELATO logs that everyone serves for special times. Always Gelato after a meal !! You cannot get Gelato like this in the U.S There is Maria serving up the 1st course, Ustica Lentichi Bean Soup. Then came pasta, Capponata, Spedini, etc. etc.Maria, Salvatore, Pina, and Pietro at the table. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| We also ate at Julia's Restaurant. Julia's Hotel is where Tom and I had stayed that night in 2010 when we were sort of lost. Julia to the right in her kitchen. To the left is one of her famous recipes, Pasta ala Finochio (fennel.) so good !! One of Tom's goals for the trip was to eat at Julia's and also try Spleen Sandwiches, above. You can see from the picture below, that he liked it.The Sandwich is called "Vastedda", a Sicilian Snack, and is made from beef spleen. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Almost every meal includes freshly caught fish from the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea. | End of trip --- in Palermo waiting to fly to Rome. Met with friend, Mario Oddo. One last Gelato !!! Mario found cousin Letizia's grandson Vincenzo for us ,working in Pizza restaurant there. He is a son of Letizia's daughter Maria. What a hard working, handsome man. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
